How does TCM work?
TCM works by bringing the body back into balance with the aid of different treatments like acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion and tuina. The imbalance could be caused by internal (eg. disharmony between organs, emotions, etc ) and external factors (eg. environment, weather, time, etc).
What is the difference between a diagnosis from the tongue and from pulse?
TCM diagnosis requires observing the patient (comprise of tongue reading), taking down details of the medical history records and symptoms, as well as palpation (includes but not limited to pulse taking). Hence, both are needed for an accurate diagnosis.
It is also important for patients to be transparent with his/her medical condition for the physician to make an accurate diagnosis.
What can Acupuncture treat?
Common conditions include musculoskeletal problem, upper respiratory conditions (e.g. cough & cold/flu ), digestive issues (eg. diarrhoea & constipation), women’s and men’s health, neurological condition (eg. stroke, depression, anxiety, facial pain/spasm, headache), skin conditions (eg. Acne, hives, hair loss), eye conditions (e.g. dry eyes, floaters), etc.
What will I feel after an Acupuncture treatment?
Some people may feel a dull ache on the acupoint(s) which will go away after a while.
Body condition and general health will improve. For example, pain relief will be felt for those who come for a pain management treatment.
What are the limits of Acupuncture?
The process of recovery may be slow for certain conditions, so numerous treatments may be needed. It cannot heal fractures or cure diseases like dengue, cancer or other hereditary conditions.
In general, since acupuncture is used to help the body to heal itself, the limits of acupuncture treatments are the limits of what the body can do to heal itself.
How do you decide when to use Acupuncture, Gua Sha, or Tui Na to treat a patient? What is the difference between these treatments?
It depends on the type of condition the patient seek treatment for. The tool and technique used, how the patient feels during the treatment, the effect, as well as the length of treatment is different.
What is herbal medicine and how do they aid in treating an illness?
Herbal medicine can come in the form of herbs (to be boiled), syrup, powder, tablet and/or pills. All contains a combination of herbs. Different formulae are used for different disease pattern and condition. For example, if a patient is diagnosed as blood deficient, he/she will be given herb formulae to nourish the blood.
I take pharmaceutical drugs. Can I still take Chinese herbs?
It is best to take them separately.
Where do your herbs come from?
Most of the herbs in PULSE come from China, Hong Kong or Taiwan.
Does my medical insurance cover Chinese medical treatments?
It depends on your insurance company. Some of them do.
