TCM works by bringing the body back into balance with the aid of different treatments like acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion and tuina. The imbalance could be caused by internal (eg. disharmony between organs, emotions, etc ) and external factors (eg. environment, weather, time, etc).

TCM diagnosis requires observing the patient (comprise of tongue reading), taking down details of the medical history records and symptoms, as well as palpation (includes but not limited to pulse taking). Hence, both are needed for an accurate diagnosis.

It is also important for patients to be transparent with his/her medical condition for the physician to make an accurate diagnosis.

Acupuncture treats musculoskeletal problems, pain & injury, poor immune system, upper respiratory conditions (e.g. sinusitis, cough & common cold/flu), digestive issues (eg. bloating, diarrhoea & constipation), women’s health (menopausal discomfort, hot flushes, fertility, and menstrual pain, irregularity and flow), sleep quality (lethargy, fatigue, insomnia, sleep deprivation, excessive dreaming, snoring), neurological condition (eg. stroke, depression, anxiety, facial pain/spasm, headache, migraine), skin conditions (eg. acne, ageing skin, hives, hair loss, excessive sweating), eye conditions (e.g. dry eyes, floaters), etc.

Some people may feel a dull ache on the acupoint(s) which will go away after a while.

Body condition and general health will improve. For example, pain relief will be felt for those who come for a pain management treatment.

The process of recovery may be slow for certain conditions, so numerous treatments may be needed. It cannot heal fractures or cure diseases like dengue, cancer or other hereditary conditions.

In general, since acupuncture is used to help the body to heal itself, the limits of acupuncture treatments are the limits of what the body can do to heal itself.

It depends on the type of condition the patient seek treatment for. The tool and technique used, how the patient feels during the treatment, the effect, as well as the length of treatment is different.

Herbal medicine can come in the form of herbs (to be boiled), syrup, powder, tablet and/or pills. All contains a combination of herbs. Different formulae are used for different disease pattern and condition. For example, if a patient is diagnosed as blood deficient, he/she will be given herb formulae to nourish the blood.

It is best to take them separately.

Most of the herbs in PULSE come from China, Hong Kong or Taiwan.

It depends on your insurance company/HR. Some of them cover charges by TCMPB-registered physicians.

All of our TCM physicians are registered under Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners Board (TCMPB), a statutory board under Ministry of Health (MOH).

Every TCM treatment begins with a consultation with our physicians, who will diagnose your condition according to your medical history, pulse and tongue.

If you’re having acupuncture treatment, it will be advisable to wear loose clothing.

Hello, thanks for opening this up for discussion.

My wife has been dealing with what we call a chronic sinus infection. We have recently returned from south carolina to the midwest, and the dryness of being indoors with the heat on has really excaserbated her symptoms. She feels swollen all the way from the top of her head down to her chest. Her sleep has become very disturbed to the point where it is making it really hard for me to sleep next to her. Any help would be greatly appreciated she has been dealing with this for years!

      Hello Andrew,

Greetings from PULSE and thank you for your enquiry!

The chronic phlegm/mucus accumulation in the nasal, throat and airways may be making her swollen, affecting her breathing and thus also disturbing her sleep. It would be beneficial to have a consultation first to understand her constitution, and then identify the root cause of the problem. She might then be able to try herbal medication and/or acupuncture to clear the phelgm and improve her sleep.

Hope this helps, have a great day ahead!
